About Carrie
Carrie is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Siebel Center for Design. She recently completed her PhD in Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include multimodal writing instruction and the inclusion of students' out-of-school literacy practices in the classroom, culturally responsive teacher preparation in English education using HCD processes and practices, empathy education in teacher education, and integrating HCD into the humanities and social sciences both in K-12 and higher education spaces. Carrie has presented her research at many conferences, including the annual conferences of the American Educators Research Association, Literacy Research Association, and International Society of the Learning Sciences. In addition to her research, Carrie teaches courses for the Siebel Center for Design including DTX 180: Exercising Empathy and DTX 455: Design for Social Impact. She also leads professional development workshops for K-12 and higher education instructors on teaching with HCD and integrating HCD into the humanities and social sciences.
