Siebel Center for Design occasionally offers opportunities for educators, executives, and other professionals to receive training in design thinking and implementation of human-centered design principles in their workplaces and organizations. We’ll post these opportunities as they become available.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: K-12 EDUCATORS
SCD-PDH Learn It! Try It! Apply It! Series
Introduction to Human-Centered Design
For each module in the Learn It! Try it! Apply It! series, participants first work through online Learn It! lessons on their own. These lessons are designed to provide the information needed to join in scheduled live sessions to try it and apply it through specially created activities appropriate to collaborative learning through the Zoom environment.
In Module 1 of this series, teachers are introduced to basic concepts within the human-centered design and design thinking approach, and to the SCD researched-based taxonomy that we use every day to accomplish our teaching and design challenge objectives. We want our participants in this course to learn how to use these methods and put this flexible, problem-solving approach to work in their classrooms. To us, learning, trying, and applying is a critical part of the professional development experience.
For the 2020-21 school year, the Learn It! asynchronous segment of this module takes approximately an hour to complete and earns 1-hr of Illinois PDH credit. The Try It! (a 2-hr segment) and Apply It! (a 3-hr segment) earn 2-hrs and 3-hrs of Illinois PDH credit respectively. Not an Illinois educator? You are definitely invited to take this module, as the concepts are universal and, in many applications, relate to national education standards.
